"Surprising... poses important questions"
- The City Sentinel, Oklahoma City

"An iron hand in a velvet glove", this documentary offers a cinematic mirror that allows U.S. citizens to see ourselves through the eyes of the world. The image you see in this well done and powerful documentary might surprise you.

-Godfrey Reggio, Producer, Director Koyaanisqatsi and Qatsi Trilogy

Have you ever wondered how the U.S. compares to other countries? What does the rest of the world think of the United States?

Considering Democracy: 8 Things to Ask Your Representative is a documentary that looks at the United States from the perspective of people living elsewhere then compares the U.S. to other first world, industrialized democracies.  It begins the process of questioning to get answers and find solutions!

The hour length documentary weaves beauty from around the world, highlighting people and their views, with information and empowerment.  The goal of this documentary is to increase political participation and dialog within the United States.  There are study and discussion menus to help people continue the dialog.  There are also action links to other organizations doing good things, as well as Supreme Court historical digs to better understand our current times.

This film is more than just views.  Extensive research was carried out to see if what people were saying was true.  I found out some very interesting things and made a list of 8 questions to ask in the following categories: Work and Leisure, Healthcare, Media, Foreign Policy, Foreign Aid, Campaign Finance, Lobbying and the Revolving Door.  The online shorts (YouTube, Blip.tv etc.) are small pieces of the project, based on research during the postproduction of the film.

As an American, I want to see open and respectful dialog between people and groups.  I believe in the perseverance of humanity and respect the beauty in democracy.  In fact, people who are empowered live more fulfilling lives.  As more people begin open dialog, I believe this will bring strength and courage to American democracy.

While I am just one person (A Girl with a Camera Productions) if we work together, our power, reach and strength increases.  Host a screening party and invite people who might not know about these issues. Begin talking about possible solutions. Together we can get many things accomplished.

Thank you,
