Recent Historical Dig #6

Take a look at these documents. We're taking a short break from Supreme Court cases and running up to the present.

The following 'surveys' were sent out to a certain segment of the U.S. voting population in March - April 2008. Some people have asked me how a country could be so divided. These might offer some clues. They were sent out by a certain political party in the U.S.

It's a very interesting study in semantics, or the manipulation and twisting of words.

The back of the first page follows.
But it didn't stop! Relentless!

This next one came a few weeks later.

Here's the other side.
Question #1 Are you confused and somewhat flabbergasted you read this? Try to put yourself in a Republican's shoes. They see the country slipping, but all the blame is placed someplace else. Now, because the country is so divided, what can you do to help and close the gap between the division?

Yes! Have a house screening party with Considering Democracy. It's packed with information, but soft enough in its delivery to get people talking. Respectful dialog is one really effective means to help try to bypass a really, well, not so good, direction that the U.S. as a whole is heading toward.

(People get paid a lot of money to word these documents. What do you think? If you feel yourself getting a little emotional, think of how difficult it would be if you were really sheltered and believed this stuff. Be nice to people, because if they read this stuff over and over again, most likely, they are really scared, or really puzzled.)

I want to take a break.
